Why It Matters – More Statistics

Domestic Violence in Georgia:

  • In 2012 there were 62 victims killed in Domestic Violence related homicides in the State of Georgia.  Three of those victims were from Cherokee County.
  • In 2008, law enforcement responded to 58,420 DV incidents in Georgia [1]
  • In 2009, law enforcement responded to 62,156 DV incidents in Georgia [2]
  • In 2010, law enforcement responded to 65,485 DV incidents in Georgia [3]
  • In 2011, law enforcement responded to 71,475  DV incidents in Georgia [4]
  • In 2010:
    • 71,212 crisis calls were made to Georgia’s certified Domestic Violence agencies.[5]
    • 23,013 protective and stalking orders were issued.
    • 7,544 survivors and children received DV shelter; 2,636 were turned away for lack of space.[6]

Domestic Violence in Cherokee County:

In 2012:

  • There were 3,635 Domestic Violence related calls to law enforcement in Cherokee County.
  • There were 1,052 made to our 24-Hour Hotline.
  • CFVC sheltered 97 women and children in our shelter who occupied 4,187 bednights.
  • The CFVC shelter operated at 95.5% capacity for the entire year.
  • CFVC served 86 women and 165 children through our Supportive Housing Program.
  • CFVC provided legal and crisis services to 469 community victims of domestic violence.
  • CFVC provided 20,023 services to victims of domestic violence and their children.
  • CFVC served women from 18 different countries through our Multicultural Program.
  • There were five (5)* Domestic Related deaths in Cherokee County.
