Lyndsey Little graduated from Kennesaw State University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Lyndsey has been affiliated with the Cherokee Family Violence Center since 2009, when she began volunteering with the Children’s Program. She was later hired as a Child Advocate and worked with adolescents and infants exposed to domestic violence. Lyndsey enjoys volunteering and has worked with the Children’s Restoration Network as a Project One-on-One Mentor, Clean-Up Cobb, and organized a school supplies donation drive for CFVC in 2012. Lyndsey is an active member for the Cherokee County Domestic Violence Task Force. Lyndsey loves the outdoors and spends her free time kayaking, hiking and fishing.
Describe your role at CFVC.
As a Senior Legal Advocate, I assist clients with navigating the civil and criminal legal systems. A large part of what I do is assistance with filing for Family Violence and Stalking Temporary Protective Orders. I advise clients of their rights and give them information about legal resources available to them. I also play a role in community awareness about issues surrounding Intimate Partner Violence and CFVC services by providing roll call trainings for law enforcement, meeting with the Solicitor General and District Attorney’s Office, participating in the Cherokee County Domestic Violence Task Force, and presenting at Arraignment Day.
How did you come to work at CFVC?
I got involved with CFVC through the Children’s Restoration Network. After college, I volunteered as a Project-One-On-One Mentor to provide academic assistance to children and was placed with the Children’s’ Program where I came every Saturday to read to the children. When a position opened up, I applied to be a Child Advocate and the rest is history.
What has made you remain committed to CFVC since then?
I really enjoy making a change in my community. As a Cherokee County resident for 20+ years, I love knowing that the work we do makes Cherokee County a better, safer place to live. I also really love my coworkers. They are a special group committed to changing lives.
What has been your favorite memory with CFVC?
Conversations in the conference room at lunch. You never know what will come up.
Why do you think people should get involved with CFVC?
People should get involved with CFVC because it is such a great cause and there are so many opportunities to volunteer.
What’s the biggest proof that you’re good at what you do?
Sometimes I receive calls from my clients just to let me know how they are doing and how much help I have been. It is such a good feeling.
What’s your biggest accomplishment?
I would have to say the networking and collaborating I have done with law enforcement and prosecution. It has really helped out the Legal Department.
What problems do you consistently solve for your clients?
I consistently assist clients with navigating the legal arena, whether it be advising them of their rights or referring them who can give them legal advice specific to their case.
What do you most look forward to in your work?
Probably letting clients know that there is help out there and that they are not alone in dealing with the difficulties they are facing.
