Advocates Attend Cultural Competency Training
Our Shelter Operations Manager, Wendy Cash, and Multicultural Outreach Coordinator, Lorena Jacobo, attended “On the Road to Social Transformation: A Cultural Competency training for Domestic Violence Service Providers and Advocates” during March 2014. The training, offered by ALIANZA (National Alliance for the Elimination of Domestic Violence) and hosted by Womenspace Inc., held in Eugene, Oregon, facilitated self-evaluation about cultural competency as well as organizational assessment, to create organizational diversity and develop culturally competent programs. Lorena and Wendy, joined by Advocates from throughout the nation, learned strategies to address the specific needs of Latina survivors, families, and communities. They also visited the Womenspace office and had the opportunity to learn from their services and programs.
